ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The Supreme Court has released a 48-page detailed opinion on the presidential reference against the hanging of former prime minister and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, stating that an innocent person was hanged without a transparent trial.

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa delivered the detailed opinion. Justice Sardar Tariq Masood and Justice Mansoor Ali Shah will give additional notes in the written opinion.

The detailed opinion said when the case against Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was tried, the courts did not have a constitutional status.

It added when the case against Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was tried, there was martial law in the country.

It added the country and its courts were prisoners of martial law at that time, stating the courts of the judge who took the oath of loyalty to the dictator were no longer the courts of the people.

The detailed opinion also said Ziaul Haq directly benefited from the decision to hang Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, adding Bhutto could have pursued a treason case against Zia if he released him.
