Faisal Vawda during a press conference on May 15 and Mustafa Kamal on May 16 in Islamabad criticised the judges holding dual nationalities. They criticised the Islamabad High Court judges for raising voice in their letters against the alleged meddling in judicial affairs.
A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa heard the Faisal Vawda contempt of court case. The Additional Attorney General appeared in the court.
The chief justice asked the AAG whether he was informed about the press conference. On which the Additional Attorney General said that he tried but the copy he was provided did not have sound in the relevant parts.
The chief justice said, “In my view, the weakest person is the one who picks up the gun, because the one who carries the gun lacks arguments.” “Secondly,” the CJP remarked, “the person who abuses is also weak because he too does not have argument. A person who has an argument does not allow anyone to speak and silences them with this arguments.”
Talking about statement of Rawalpindi Commissioner who had alleged election rigging, the chief justice further said that a commissioner had given a statement that “I rigged it, let me tell how it will happen even if I want to rig it. No one confirmed the commissioner's statement. All the media played it, our media also has a responsibility; there are good and bad people in the media too.”
The chief justice said, “I have taken the oath of the organization and not of myself… We know that we (Pakistani judiciary) are at number 137 in the index or whatever it is. What do you want to prove with shouting and abuses?”
Without naming but addressing Senator Vawda, the chief justice said, “You are a member of parliament, what was the need for a press conference? The weakest are those who carry guns or abuse. If someone speaks well, there is no coverage in the press club but those hurl abuses get media coverage easily.”
Faez Isa said that Mustafa Kamal from Karachi also came to give a speech, adding that we don’t need an enemy from outside.
After giving remarks, the chief justice issued notices to both the politician summoned them for June 5 in person.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court took suo motu notice of the independent Senator’s hard-hitting presser against Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges over their letter alleging meddling by spy agencies in judicial affairs.
On Wednesday, Senator Faisal Vawda demanded that Justice Babar Sattar of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) should give evidence of the allegations the latter leveled in a letter addressed to the IHC chief justice regarding alleged interference in judicial affairs by intelligence agencies.
Addressing the IHC judge, the former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader had said during the press conference in Islamabad, “Now the evidence of the allegations has to be given. I am a senator, if I do not get an answer, what will the common man get. Only accusations are not enough, you will have to give evidence of interference. Tell who interfered in your judicial affairs. Bring evidence of interference, we stand with you.”
In response to the presser, the bench led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa and also consisting of Justice Irfan Sadaat and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan heard the suo motu case on Friday.
