(Web Desk): The Punjab government is letting local officials decide if schools in flood-hit areas should stay closed or reopen, prioritizing safety.

In light of severe flooding in several districts, the Punjab government has handed over the decision-making power to Deputy Commissioners regarding whether schools in flood-affected areas should remain closed or reopen. Many schools have been badly impacted by the floods, making it unsafe for students and staff to return in some locations.

The School Education Department has said that conditions in these areas are still unsafe for educational activities, and local officials are now tasked with assessing the situation on the ground. Deputy Commissioners will carefully evaluate whether schools can safely reopen based on their areas’ conditions.

Meanwhile, Chief Executive Officers and District Education Authorities are instructed to keep in close contact with local administrations to make sure the decisions are implemented smoothly. They are also reminded to prioritize the safety of everyone involved.

This move follows a meeting of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) officials, who are working to handle the situation and protect students and staff during these challenging times.
