Punjab CM Maryam Nawaz approves laptop scheme for students

LAHORE: (Suno News) Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Friday approved the laptop scheme. Students of Punjab will get laptops again after seven years.

As per official sources, an important meeting regarding reforms in the higher education sector was held under the chairmanship of Maryam Nawaz.

During the meeting, a detailed briefing was given on the promotion of higher education, a laptop scheme for students, and transport facilities for girl students.

The meeting was briefed that the higher education budget was high during the tenure of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government in Punjab.

The meeting was told that over 650,000 students are studying in private and public universities in Punjab. Among those students, the proportion of boys is 44 percent and that of girls is 56 percent.

It was agreed in the meeting to build new universities and colleges on a priority basis in the backward districts.

On the occasion, Maryam Nawaz said an international standard university and college in every district and tehsil, respectively, are among the government’s goals.

The Punjab chief minister also said she welcomes the announcement of an “education emergency” by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, adding the school education and higher education sector need a complete revamp.

She also said 20,000 motorbikes are being given to students across the province, adding the Punjab government is investing in the development of knowledge economy and ICT education.

Punjab govt launches project to provide 20,000 bikes to students

The project to provide 20,000 motorbikes to students under the “Chief Minister Youth Initiative” has been launched across the province.
 
The registration process to get the electric and petrol bikes in easy installments has been started. In the first phase, 19,000 petrol bikes and 1,000 electric bikes will be provided to students across the province.
 
The Punjab government will pay a subsidy of Rs1 billion to provide interest-free bikes to the students. It will also pay Rs20,000 worth of down payment on behalf of the students.
 
The Punjab government will also pay the markup on monthly installments of the bikes. Male and female students will have to pay Rs11,676 and Rs7,325 worth of monthly installments, respectively.
 
In the first phase, electric bikes will be given in Faisalabad, Multan, Bahawalpur, Rawalpindi, and Lahore. The bikes will be given in proportion to the population in each district.
 
The last date for submitting applications to get bikes is April 29, 2024. Applicants must be students of graduate colleges and public or private universities.
 
To get the bikes in easy installments, the age of the student should be above 18 years, and a driving license or learner permit is mandatory. Students can apply till April 29 at bikes.punjab.gov.pk.
