The European Union’s Erasmus programme, known for its high competitiveness, awarded scholarships to 2,176 students from 137 countries. Pakistan led the list, followed by India (96), Bangladesh (95), Mexico (93), Nigeria (75), and Brazil (73), demonstrating strong Global South representation.

In 2024, Pakistan had 189 recipients, including 100 men, 88 women, and one non-binary student. Although the number decreased this year, the higher share of female awardees reflects evolving academic trends.

These prestigious scholarships offer opportunities for joint master s degrees across multiple European universities, covering tuition, travel, living costs, and international academic experiences including internships and research.

The EU Delegation in Islamabad celebrated the announcement, calling it a “proud moment” that reaffirms Pakistan’s growing academic presence on the global stage.
