(Web Desk): The Higher Education Commission (HEC) announced that Pakistani and AJK students now have a golden chance to study in the UK under the prestigious Commonwealth Scholarship scheme.

As applications for Masters and PhD programs are officially open, the last date to apply through its online portal is October 14, 2025 at 4:00 PM (Pakistan Standard Time). A total of 26 nominations are available for Masters and 30 for PhD.

Since 1960, the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) has supported over 30,000 individuals in pursuing higher studies in the UK. These scholarships aim to equip students with knowledge and skills to tackle global development challenges.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must be permanent residents of Pakistan or AJ&K. Dual nationals are not eligible. For a Master’s scholarship, a first division in 16 years of relevant education is required, while PhD candidates must have 17/18 years of education with first division.

Result-awaiting students can also apply. However, no candidate with a second or third division in their final degree will be considered.

Every applicant must provide a valid HAT test score of at least 60 out of 100. Only general HAT categories (HAT-I, II, III, IV) are acceptable. Scores taken on or after October 16, 2023 can be uploaded directly to the HEC portal.

For PhD applicants, a supporting statement from a potential UK supervisor is mandatory. Candidates already registered for PhD or MPhil leading to PhD before September 2026 are not eligible.

Application Process

The application requires submission on both the Commonwealth and HEC online portals. Failure to complete either will result in rejection.

Step 1: Apply through the CSC online system on the official website (links provided for Masters and PhD).

Step 2: Apply on the HEC scholarship portal at https://scholarship.hec.gov.pk/

 under “Learning Opportunities Abroad”.

Applicants must keep digital copies of both applications for record. Hard copies should not be sent unless specifically requested by HEC.

HEC has clarified that its role is limited to facilitation. The final selection will be made by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission. HEC will not bear any financial liability.

Key Notes

Equal opportunity policy ensures at least 45% female nominations.

Incomplete or saved (not submitted) applications will not be entertained.

Any false information will lead to cancellation and future disqualification.

Students must be able to begin studies in the UK by September 2026.
