The ongoing severe cold wave across Sindh has prompted private schools to recommend a delayed start time of 9 AM until January 31, 2026. The decision comes as the extreme weather continues to disrupt daily life, particularly in remote districts of the province.
Haider Ali, Chairman of the All Sindh Private Schools and Colleges Association (ASPSCA), said the severity of cold weather significantly affects students and staff, making early school hours impractical. He emphasized the need for an urgent meeting of the Private Schools Steering Committee to finalize a revised academic calendar.

The chairman also urged the Sindh Education Minister to maintain the 9 AM school opening time in light of extreme cold conditions. He highlighted the importance of promptly issuing uniform examination syllabi and paper specifications, as the academic year is nearing completion and examination schedules are imminent.
Ali further stressed that immediate decisions are required for new admissions, examination timetables, and holiday schedules to avoid confusion and disruption in the education sector.
Sindh Education officials welcomed the private schools’ recommendations, terming the initiative a “positive step” toward protecting students’ welfare. However, authorities warned that delays in issuing standardized syllabi and exam papers could create challenges for finalizing academic assessments this year.
