(Web Desk): The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Elementary and Secondary Education Department has implemented a four-day school week for all public educational institutions in the province.

The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Elementary and Secondary Education Department has introduced a four-day school week for public schools across the province. According to an official notification, schools will now remain closed on Fridays and Saturdays, and the new schedule came into effect on April 1, 2026.

New School Timings under the updated schedule:

  • Primary schools: 7:30 am to 1:35 pm
  • Middle schools: 7:30 am to 2:35 pm
  • High and higher secondary schools: classes end at 3:00 pm

Officials explained that the change was made to reduce operational costs and transportation expenses due to rising fuel prices and supply shortages.

Punjab Schools Reopen

At the same time, schools in Punjab have reopened after being closed for austerity measures and fuel conservation. Physical classes had been suspended from March 10 to March 31, during which students continued learning online.

Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat said that normal teaching activities have now resumed across the province. Schools in Punjab will continue operating five days a week.

The minister also stressed the importance of collective efforts to address challenges in the education sector and ensure smooth learning for all students.
