The Sindh government has officially announced a public holiday in all educational institutions across the province, including Karachi, on the occasion of Youm-i-Ali.
According to the Sindh Education Department, a formal notification has been issued declaring a holiday in schools and colleges across Sindh to mark the religious occasion.
The notification states that all educational institutions will remain closed on 11 March 2026, which falls on 21 ramazan, in observance of Youm e Ali. On this day, academic activities in schools and colleges will remain suspended across the province.
Authorities said the decision has been taken to facilitate religious observances and to allow students, teachers and staff to take part in the events held on this important day.
Every year on 21 ramazan, the martyrdom day of Hazrat Ali is observed with great respect and devotion. Religious gatherings, processions and prayer events are held in many cities where people pay tribute to Hazrat Ali’s life, character and contributions to Islamic history.
Special security arrangements are also made in different districts of Sindh, including Karachi, to ensure the safety of people participating in processions and religious gatherings.

Due to Youm-i-Ali processions, authorities usually issue a traffic management plan as well. Important roads are monitored and alternative routes are arranged to maintain the smooth flow of traffic in major areas.
Law enforcement agencies and local administration jointly supervise security and administrative arrangements during the events to avoid any untoward incidents.
Officials said the closure of educational institutions not only allows people to participate in religious activities but also helps authorities manage security arrangements more effectively.
The holiday reflects the importance of Youm-i-Ali in Pakistan. Large gatherings take place on this day every year. Closing schools helps manage security and traffic better. It also allows people to attend religious events peacefully.
