Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique presided over an important meeting to review Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program and other major public health initiatives.
The session focused on the progress of the Children’s Heart Surgery Program, the Dialysis Program, and the Transplant Program launched under the CM Punjab’s Special Health Initiatives.
Dr. Adnan Khan, Chairman Punjab CM’s Advisory Committee for Cardiology Dr. Farqad Alamgir, Vice Chancellor University of Child Health Sciences Professor Masood Sadiq, CEO Punjab Health Initiative Management Company Dr. Ali Razaq, and senior officials from major cardiology institutes in Lahore, Multan, Rawalpindi, and Wazirabad were present.
Officials gave a detailed briefing on the monitoring system, patient services, and feedback from families benefiting from these health programs. Khawaja Salman Rafique emphasized that all three programs must maintain full transparency, strong monitoring, and timely patient support. He directed hospitals to resolve patient difficulties quickly and ensure maximum convenience for those seeking treatment.

According to the briefing, more than 8,000 children have received free heart surgeries under the Chief Minister’s Children’s Heart Surgery Program. Children from Punjab as well as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Kashmir, Islamabad, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Sindh have benefited from this service.
Under the Transplant Program, 432 kidney transplants, 216 cochlear implants, 139 liver transplants, 16 bone marrow transplants, and 5 corneal transplants have been provided completely free of cost.
Meanwhile, over 950,000 dialysis procedures have been conducted in 211 hospitals across Punjab under the Chief Minister’s Dialysis Program. So far, more than 28,000 patients have registered for regular dialysis under this scheme.
Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the Punjab government is committed to ensuring that people receive modern and affordable healthcare without financial burden.
He added that all available resources are being utilized to provide the best medical facilities to the public.
