A detailed report submitted to the court revealed that several victims died due to electrocution and falls from rooftops and trees.
The Lahore High Court (LHC) was hearing petitions seeking information about the damages and government spending on the festival.
During the proceedings, the petitioner’s lawyer argued that the report did not mention deaths caused by kite strings. He also stated that no data had been provided on the total number of people injured during the celebrations.
“Basant has become a life-threatening danger instead of a festival,” the petitioner said. “Dozens of children were injured after falling from roofs.”

The petition requested the court to order criminal and departmental action against officials accused of negligence. It also sought the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the losses incurred during Basant.
The court issued notices to authorities, seeking full details of government expenditures related to the festival.
Earlier, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the arrangements and security measures during Basant. She appreciated citizens for cooperating in maintaining order and stated that restrictions on kite flying would continue even after the festival. Officials were also instructed to strictly enforce safety protocols.
Lahore celebrated Basant 2026 in vibrant colors under strict SOPs. The festival was officially held after 25 years under the Punjab Regulation of Kite Flying Act 2025.
