(Web Desk): In a shocking act of intra-family violence in Jhang’s Gaggrana Haveli Lal village, a 20‑year‑old brother allegedly shot his own sister over not heating his food.

The shooting occurred on 3 August 2025 in the Faisalabad Division’s Jhang district. The victim, Ayesha, succumbed to a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene; her brother, Umair Mushtaq Gaggrana, fled immediately afterwards.

Police sources informed reporters that Dr Ayesha, who had recently returned to Pakistan after finishing her MBBS studies in Kyrgyzstan, had also entered into a videolink marriage with someone named DrHusnain. Her family reportedly disapproved of this marriage, a potential source of tension.

According to law enforcement, the argument began when Dr Ayesha neither reheated the meal nor agreed to do so, prompting her brother to erupt in anger. In the heat of the moment, Umair allegedly fired at her head with a pistol. Severely wounded, the doctor collapsed and died instantly. Sources say that Umair then escaped the scene before police arrived.

Officers reached the location within minutes after the crime was reported. Dr Ayesha’s body was transported to the District Hospital for a postmortem examination. The doctors uncle, Iftikhar Ahmed, lodged an FIR at Satellite Town Police Station. A manhunt is currently underway to arrest the suspect.

Demands have been sparked for more stringent enforcement of law and better safeguarding of women’s protection and rights due to the rise in recent intra-family violence and domestic abuse. Human rights advocates have urged educational outreach and legislative reform to curb these tragedies.

“As per police, after the shooting, the suspect left the scene before any law enforcement officers could detain him,” police confirmed, shortly after arriving at the scene and securing the body.

This tragic event underlines the urgent need for social and legal reforms to prevent violence arising from domestic disputes.
