(Web Desk): The Pakistan government has issued an alert urging citizens to cancel the Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) of deceased family members to prevent misuse.

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has advised citizens to cancel the CNICs of family members to prevent misuse of these identity cards.

According to the directives issued by the authority, citizens can update family records by visiting the nearest NADRA Registration Center (NRC) or using the Pak ID mobile app. Despite over 7 million registered deaths in union councils, many CNICs remain active in NADRA’s system.

Documents Required:

Union Council-issued computerized death certificate

All available ID cards of the deceased (CNIC/NICOP/POC/CRC)

NADRA affidavit or undertaking

Steps for Cancellation:

1.     Obtain a computerized death certificate from the Union Council.

2.     Visit the nearest NADRA Registration Center with required documents.

3.     Fill out the cancellation form.

4.     Submit the documents for verification.

5.     NADRA staff will destroy the original CNICs to prevent misuse.

6.     Collect the official cancellation certificate once processing is complete.
