A major breakthrough in local healthcare has been announced as authorities set January 31 as the final deadline to make the Nawaz Sharif Institute of Cardiology fully functional. The decision comes as thousands of cardiac patients in Sargodha and nearby areas continue to travel to major cities, including Lahore and Islamabad, for advanced heart treatment.
Officials confirmed that all pending tasks, including the recruitment of medical specialists, installation of advanced cardiac equipment, and activation of emergency and inpatient wards, will be completed within the set timeframe. The institute is expected to offer angiography, angioplasty, cardiac surgeries, intensive care units, and round-the-clock emergency services once it becomes operational.
According to health authorities, the project has been delayed for years, causing frustration among residents. However, the new deadline reflects the government’s push to expand specialized healthcare facilities across the region. The fully functional institute is expected to significantly reduce the burden on major hospitals and provide timely, lifesaving treatment closer to home.

Local residents and civil society members have welcomed the development, calling it a long-awaited relief for heart patients who struggle with travel expenses and delayed medical attention. Many believe the institute will not only improve access to cardiology services but also create employment opportunities in the medical sector.
With the deadline now in place, authorities say they are confident that Sargodha’s first dedicated cardiac hospital will be ready to serve patients by the end of January, marking a major milestone for the region’s healthcare system.
