ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has issued a serious warning to the public, declaring two commonly used medicines as fake and unsafe for use.

The authority has also instructed provincial drug inspectors to immediately seize these products from the market.

According to DRAP, the two counterfeit medicines are:

Efaston Tablets (Dydrogesterone 10mg)

Paracare Suspension 60ml (Paracetamol 120mg/5ml)

A statement issued on Wednesday revealed that laboratory testing confirmed that these products contain no active pharmaceutical ingredients, making them dangerous for human health.

DRAP warned that such fake drugs pose a serious threat to public safety. They can cause treatment failure, worsen diseases, and even lead to life-threatening complications, especially for patients who depend on these medicines for essential treatment.

The authority urged the public to take the following precautions:

Stop using these medicines immediately.

Consult a doctor if any negative effects are experienced.

Always check the batch number before purchasing any medicine.

Report any suspicious products to the relevant health authorities without delay.

Additionally, DRAP has instructed doctors, pharmacists, and hospitals to closely monitor their supply chains and report any quality or safety issues related to these medicines directly to the authority.

This warning from DRAP highlights the growing concern of fake and low-quality medicines in Pakistan’s markets. The discovery that these popular drugs contained no real ingredients exposes a dangerous loophole in the supply chain. Experts believe such alerts should push both consumers and pharmacies to be more cautious and verify medicines before use. Ensuring public awareness and tighter regulation could prevent future health risks.
