Fan club pre-sales for BTS’ upcoming Arirang world tour began recently and saw over 100,000 fans rush into online queues within moments.

All seats for three April concerts in Goyang, South Korea, were sold out almost instantly, marking the group’s first major tour in nearly four years.

Many fans missed out despite being official members, losing tickets by seconds as tens of thousands waited ahead of them. The intense competition highlighted BTS’ massive popularity and the growing pressure of K-pop concert ticket.

BTS concert ticket cost added to the shock. Premium seats for the Goyang shows reached 264,000 Korean won, a sharp rise from the 220,000 won sound check packages sold in 2022.

Compared to 2018, when top tickets cost around 110,000 won, prices have jumped by nearly 240 per cent.

BTS is not alone in this trend. K-pop concerts crossing the 200,000 won mark are becoming common. Groups now offer premium packages with early entry, sound checks, and meet-and-greet access, pushing prices even higher across the industry.

Rookie group Illit priced meet-and-greet tickets at 253,000 won on its debut tour, while Enhypen charged similar rates during concerts in Seoul. Just a year earlier, Enhypen’s highest tickets were priced much lower, showing how quickly costs are rising.

Industry insiders say the increases are hard to avoid. Concerts today feature massive screens, advanced sound systems, and complex stage designs, all of which raise production costs. Inflation has also increased spending on equipment, transport, staff, and security.

Large stadium tours further add to expenses. BTS’ Goyang venue can host up to 50,000 fans, requiring more staff and stricter safety arrangements than smaller concert halls.

Despite complaints, K-pop concert tickets in South Korea remain cheaper than in many other markets. In Japan, BTS VIP tickets start at 45,000 yen, while in the US, premium seats have reached nearly Rs220,000, with prices ranging from Rs23,000 to Rs216,000 depending on location and demand.

A US-based BTS fan said BTS concert ticket prices in Korea still feel affordable compared to overseas shows, where fans often rely on resale platforms and pay significantly higher amounts.
