(Web Desk): Game of Thrones world has expanded as HBO and George R. R. Martin have confirmed new sequel series in the development.

The universe of Game of Thrones is set to grow further. In November 2025, at Iceland Noir Festival, Martin announced that alongside the already planned spin-offs, there are “a sequel or two” to the main series currently in active development.

As previously revealed, two of the spin-offs, House of the Dragon and A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms have been renewed through to 2028 and 2027 respectively, indicating the continued expansion of the Westeros television universe.

However, while prequels have so far dominated the franchise’s trajectory, the confirmation of sequels marks a shift.

HBO appears ready to explore what happens after the events of Game of Thrones itself, offering a chance to revisit unresolved arcs and expand the narrative beyond the original show.

Some fans, however, are worried about the timing. The announcement raises concerns that a sequel series might outpace the forthcoming book “The Winds of Winter”, potentially spoiling the original author’s intended conclusion before the novel is released.
