(Web Desk): Social media influencer Samiya Hijab has surprised many by forgiving the man accused of threatening and attempting to abduct her. The suspect has now been sent to Adiala Jail on a 14-day judicial remand.

The accused was taken into custody on September 2 after Samiya lodged a complaint at Shalimar Police Station in the capital. The FIR was registered under Sections 354, 365, 392, 500, 509, and 511 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The suspect had already been remanded twice before today’s hearing.

Police produced him before Judicial Magistrate Yasin Mahmood Chuahdry after his two-day physical remand expired. Authorities requested an additional five-day physical remand, but the judge dismissed the request and instead ordered a 14-day judicial remand.

According to the FIR, Samiya claimed the accused had been stalking her for days. She said that last Sunday at 6:30pm, an attempt was made to forcibly drag her out of her house.

“Today’s incident further escalated when he attempted to forcibly abduct me from my house while I was returning his gifts. This amounts to abduction, harassment, and assault under the law. For evidence, I have CCTV footage,” Samiya stated in the FIR.

Despite the allegations and evidence, the influencer chose to forgive the suspect, a decision that has left many of her followers shocked and divided.

This case highlights the growing threats faced by social media influencers in Pakistan, who are increasingly vulnerable to harassment, stalking, and intimidation. Samiya Hijab’s forgiveness of the suspect raises questions about the social and emotional pressures victims face in such cases. While the court has placed the accused on judicial remand, the dismissal of the police’s request for further physical remand indicates the judiciary’s cautious stance. The incident also underscores the importance of stronger legal protections for women in digital and public spaces, as well as the urgent need for accountability in harassment and abduction cases.
