The Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reported that the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) increased by 0.09 percent for the week ended February 4, 2026, reaching 333,79 points from 333,49 points last week. On a yearly basis, SPI rose by 4.84 percent.
The weekly SPI covers 17 urban centres and 51 essential items across all consumption groups. For the lowest consumption group up to Rs17,732, the SPI increased by 0.13 percent to 324,23 points. Other groups also saw slight increases ranging from 0.08 to 0.11 percent.
During the week, prices of 12 out of 51 items increased, including tomatoes (12,78%), bananas (8,16%), onions (7,27%), garlic (5,45%), high-speed diesel (4,35%), pulse mash (2,34%), pulse moong (0,35%), mustard oil (0,30%) and mutton (0,24%). Meanwhile, 13 items recorded price drops and 26 items remained stable.
On a year-on-year basis, major price hikes were seen in tomatoes (79,70%), eggs (38,87%), wheat flour (34,69%), gas charges for Q1 (29,85%), bananas (13,49%), chilies powder (13,30%), beef (12,65%), LPG (11,53%), firewood (11,28%), powdered milk (9,92%), shirting (8,49%) and gur (8,45%).

Experts said that rising prices of essential items like vegetables, diesel, pulses and meat are affecting household budgets. Consumers are advised to plan spending carefully as inflation continues to rise.
