Self-imposed inflation in Lahore has made life more difficult for citizens, as the prices of mutton, beef, and chicken have gone out of control. Many families say they are struggling to afford basic food items due to the sudden and continuous increase in meat prices.
Butchers across the city are openly ignoring the official government price list and charging higher rates. Citizens say the district administration’s actions appear ineffective, as sellers continue to demand prices of their own choice without strict monitoring or penalties.
Reports show that the price of quality mutton has increased from Rs2,700 to Rs3,200 per kilogram. Similarly, quality beef prices have risen from Rs1,200 to Rs1,400 per kilogram. This sharp increase has badly affected household budgets, forcing many people to reduce meat consumption or avoid it completely.

Consumers have also complained that some departmental stores are selling low-quality mutton and beef at high prices. They have urged authorities to take immediate action, saying that they are not only paying more but also receiving poor quality meat.
Meanwhile, chicken prices have also increased by Rs7 per kilogram, and chicken is now being sold at Rs482 per kilogram. This additional increase has created more pressure on citizens already facing rising food inflation.
Meat prices are rising faster than people’s incomes in Lahore. Weak enforcement is allowing sellers to charge higher prices freely. Many families may stop buying meat regularly if this trend continues. Strong government action is needed to control prices and protect consumers.
