ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has slashed LPG prices for August, an official notification has confirmed the change.

OGRA’s notification says the per kilogram price of LPG has been reduced by Rs17.74. As a result, the cost of an 11.8 kg domestic LPG cylinder has dropped by Rs209.24.

The new price for a household cylinder is now set at Rs2,541.36 for the month of August. In comparison, the same cylinder was priced at Rs2,750.60 in July, reflecting a noticeable decrease.

In July, the per kilogram price of LPG was Rs233. However, starting August, this will fall to Rs215.36 per kilogram — a clear dip that could bring slight relief to budget-conscious households.

Despite the reduction, many domestic consumers remain skeptical. They’ve called this a temporary relief, noting that while prices have come down, the difference isn t significant enough to ease the pressure of daily expenses.

One user reacted sharply, saying, “It’s two or three days of happiness — then they’ll impose a new tax.”

On the commercial front, hotel owners, tandoor operators, and small businesses welcomed the decision, appreciating the lower prices. However, they stressed the need for the government to maintain these reductions consistently so small enterprises can recover and grow.

While OGRA’s price cut is a positive gesture, consumer sentiment reveals lingering distrust. With inflation already straining household budgets, any relief — no matter how temporary — feels like a lifeline. Yet fears of future tax hikes or policy reversals keep confidence low. For small businesses, this move offers hope, but sustainability will depend on consistent pricing support in the months ahead.
