KARACHI (Web Desk): The government has announced a reduction in LPG prices, offering partial relief to consumers, while fears of petrol and diesel price hikes still remain.

According to a notification issued by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), LPG prices have been cut by 3.1 percent effective from October 1. The new price has been reduced by Rs6.70 per kilogram, bringing it down to Rs207.49 per kilogram.

The price of a domestic LPG cylinder has also been slashed by Rs79.14, lowering it from Rs2,527.47 in September to Rs2,448.33 from October 1.

However, other petroleum products may see an increase. Sources indicate that petrol could rise by Rs1.97 per liter, while high-speed diesel may increase by Rs2.48 per liter. Similarly, light diesel oil could go up by Rs1.76 per liter, and kerosene oil may rise sharply by Rs4.65 per liter.

OGRA will send its revised price summary for petroleum products to the Ministry of Finance. The final decision will be made after the Prime Minister’s approval, followed by an official announcement from the ministry.

The government’s decision to cut LPG prices offers short-term relief for households, but the possible hike in petrol, diesel, and kerosene could wipe out this benefit. For ordinary people already under economic stress, cheaper LPG may not offset the rising cost of transportation and daily essentials linked to petrol and diesel.
