ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) The federal government is mulling over providing incentives for electric bikes to people.

A high-level session, led by Haroon Akhtar Khan, the Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, was convened to assess the government’s initiative offering incentives on electric bikes.

The meeting featured comprehensive discussions on a scheme designed to provide subsidies for 116,000 electric bikes, as envisioned by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Khan reaffirmed the government’s dedication to supporting the public through electric bike incentives, highlighting their eco-friendliness and potential for major fuel cost savings.

He also noted that 25 per cent of the electric bikes under this initiative would be allocated for women, promoting inclusivity and equal access.

This campaign is considered a significant move toward encouraging sustainable transportation and lowering Pakistan’s carbon emissions.

It is worth noting that the upcoming New Electric Vehicle (NEV) policy proposes subsidies of Rs50,000 for electric bikes and Rs200,000 for electric three-wheelers, with a total subsidy pool of Rs4 billion.

The meeting was attended by Saif Anjum, Secretary of the Ministry of Industries and Production Ms. Ambreen Jan, Secretary of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting; and Principal Information Officer Mobashir Hassan.
