Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday described granting a commercial license to Raqami Islamic Digital Bank as a major step for Pakistan’s financial sector and a boost to economic cooperation with Kuwait.
Addressing the concluding session of the license ceremony, the PM said strong political relations must be supported by real economic engagement. Trade, investment, and financial collaboration are essential for lasting partnerships.
“Pakistan and Kuwait are brotherly countries with decades of strong cultural, political, and people-to-people ties,” he said. “It is time to strengthen our economic and investment links to grow this relationship further.”

Congratulating Raqami Islamic Digital Bank for becoming Pakistan’s third licensed digital retail bank, PM Shehbaz expressed confidence that it would promote financial inclusion, innovation, and Shariah-compliant banking.

He said digital Islamic banking will modernize the country’s financial ecosystem while adhering to Islamic principles.
The Kuwaiti ambassador praised the licensing as a practical expression of deep-rooted brotherly relations between the two countries. He added that Kuwait is keen to expand cooperation in trade, investment, and financial services.
Abdullah Al-Mutari, chairman of Raqami Islamic Digital Bank’s board, thanked the government and the State Bank of Pakistan for their support and presented a commemorative memento to PM Shehbaz.

Raqami CEO Umair Ijaz said the bank will offer fully Shariah-compliant digital banking services designed to improve accessibility, efficiency, and customer experience, supporting Pakistan’s financial inclusion goals.
