Petroleum dealers to go on strike tomorrow against advance tax

KARACHI: (Web Desk) The Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association (PPDA) has announced a nationwide strike from tomorrow against the imposition of advance tax in the budget 2024-25, which may cause shortage of petroleum products across the country on Thursday.

The association announced the closure of petrol pumps across the country from 6:00am on Thursday due to which the people may face shortage of petrol.

The strike announcement came following the imposition of advance tax on petroleum products by the government. The PPDA had announced the shutdown of petrol pumps across the country, saying that the strike could last more than a day.

The association issued instructions to the petroleum dealers to keep petroleum products stocked at the filling stations till July 4. Responding to the call, nearly 13,000 dealers across the country will close their filling stations from the morning of July 5.

The PPDA chairman said that there will be no negotiations until the government announces the withdrawal of the tax. Petroleum dealers have appealed to the vehicle owners to fill their vehicles with petrol.
