Zaka steps down as PCB’s Interim Management Committee chairman
LAHORE: (Suno News) Pakistan Cricket Board’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) Chairman Zaka Ashraf on Friday tendered his resignation from the position.
The resignation came two weeks before the expiry of the IMC’s tenure. In a statement issued by Zaka Ashraf, he said, “instead of remaining a powerless chairman, I have decided to resign from this position.” He said that he had submitted his resignation to Caretaker Prime Minister Anwarul Haq Kakar. He said that he would continue to work in his capacity until his resignation was accepted.
It is pertinent to mention that three days before, the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination (IPC) had disallowed Ashraf from holding an IMC meeting wherein he was supposed to form the Board of Governors (BoGs). It is the first move to hold the elections of PCB chairman for a three-year term.
Ashraf thanked the premier “for the confidence and trust reposed by him and extended his best wishes and prayers for the betterment of Pakistan and Pakistan cricket”.
In November 2023, the caretaker prime minister had extended the tenure of Zaka Ashraf as chairman of the PCB’s IMC until the Cricket World Cup. The summary received from the Inter-Provincial Coordination Ministry regarding his future was approved by the PM. It was stated in the summary that the tenure ofZaka Ashraf is coming to an end, and the Prime Minister will be informed of his future plans.
Earlier, the caretaker prime minister had met with former captain of the National Cricket Team, Shahid Afridi, during which there was an exchange of views on improving cricket. Shahid Afridi had given his recommendations for further improvement in the game of cricket nationwide. Kakar had urged Shahid Afridi to play a role in improving cricket, to which Shahid Afridi had responded by considering to accept a responsibility within the Pakistan Cricket Board.
