The American woman was traveling on flight EK 603 of a foreign airline, which will take her to the US via Dubai. Onijah, a resident of New York, arrived in Karachi on a one-month tourist visa on October 11, to meet the young man she was in love with.
Her visa expired, and she was supposed to leave Karachi by November 10. However, she stayed in the city for several more months. Her Pakistani visa and return ticket had expired. In mid-January, when she tried to enter Karachi airport, security stopped her, and the ASF handed her over to airport police.
The 33-year-old American citizen, who arrived in Karachi to meet Nidal Ahmed Memon, had recently revealed her future plans during a press conference.
She was then accompanied by Philanthropist and social worker Ramzan Chhipa who requested a young Pakistani man to visit an American woman claiming to be his wife so as to resolve the matter.
Onijah Robinson came to meet Nidal Ahmed Memon who later abandoned her, saying his family did not agree to their marriage. His whereabouts are currently unknown, according to Arab News.
Subsequently, Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori intervened to extend her expired visa and arrange a flight home. However, she refused to return home, SHO Kaleem Khan Moosa said.
During the press conference, Robinson had said she wanted to “fix up” and “reconstruct” the Chhipa building before getting up and claiming she was going to meet her husband.
When a reporter asked what her plan was, she retorted, “It’s none of your business.”
“My plan is to reconstruct this whole country. I am asking for $100k, [and] I need $20k by this week in my pocket in cash. That’s a demand to this government. The government is going to fix up these streets […] It’s ridiculous out here. I do not like it. I need you guys to understand that Pakistan is in need of new buses, cabs, cars. Please listen to what I’m saying, my name is Onijah Ahmed.”
Meanwhile, police sources claimed that Memon had been taken into custody by intelligence agencies four days ago, while his family had already vacated their residence.
