Ousted Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's wife files for divorce
MOSCOW (Web desk): Asma al-Assad, the wife of deposed Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad has reportedly filed for divorce in Russian Court.

According to reports by international media, Asma al-Assad contacted a British firm, hinting at returning to London. She sought permission for moving to London on grounds of urgent medical treatment.

As per reports, Asma has lodged two petitions in Russian Court. She has been diagnosed with leukemia.

In one petition, she pleaded the court to allow her to move to United Kingdom. In another petition, she sought divorce to separate from Assad family.

It merits mention that Assad family sought refuge following the collapse of its regime in Syria.

Sources close to the couple claimed that Asma al-Assad, who worked as an investment banker in London before her marriage to Bashar, is eager to return to the UK for proper medical care.

According to details, Sahar al-Akhras, mother of Asma al- Assad, a former Syrian diplomat and British citizen, is said to have engaged leading London law firms to facilitate her daughter’s return.

It is noteworthy to mention that this move comes weeks after the Assad family left Damascus as rebel forces took control of the Syrian capital and sought refuge in Russia.

As Bashar al-Assad faces challenges, the potential divorce could add another layer of complexity to the challenges. The split could have significant repercussions for the future of the Assad family s political influence in the region.

Asma and Assad tied the knot in 2000, shortly after he succeeded his father as president.
