Plan B: Trump may push for Iran regime change
(Web Desk): US President Donald Trump is weighing Plan B on Iran, including regime change and a wider military operation if a limited strike fails, The New York Times reports.

According to a report by The New York Times, Donald Trump has decided to move forward with a contingency “Plan B” if his initial strategy of limited military strikes on Iran does not yield the desired results.

Under “Plan A,” President Trump had signaled the possibility of a limited military strike aimed at pressuring Iran into accepting US demands, particularly concerning its nuclear program. The objective of the initial attack would reportedly be to compel Tehran to show flexibility in negotiations.

Sources familiar with internal discussions within the Trump administration told The New York Times that the limited strike could target facilities linked to Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, ballistic missile program, military command and control centers, and bases associated with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

Plan B: Regime Change and Wider Military Campaign

However, if limited strikes fail to produce compliance, Trump is reportedly considering a broader military campaign later this year. The larger operation could aim to weaken or even remove Iran’s top leadership, including Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, and dismantle the current governing structure.

The report suggests that the expanded military operation could be designed to bring about regime change in Tehran, significantly escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Geneva Talks and Rising Military Presence

The developments come ahead of another round of US-Iran talks scheduled in Geneva on Thursday, described as a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avoid military confrontation. Despite ongoing negotiations, Washington has reportedly increased its military presence in the Middle East, a move widely interpreted as preparation for potential action against Iran.

Officials cited by The New York Times indicated that while diplomacy remains on the table, military options are actively being reviewed should Iran refuse to scale back its nuclear program.

Potential Targets Under Consideration

According to the report, possible targets in a limited or expanded strike include IRGC headquarters, nuclear facilities, ballistic missile installations, and key military command structures. A broader campaign could seek to undermine or eliminate the authority of Iran’s Supreme Leader and alter the country’s political system.

The situation has heightened global concerns about a possible US-Iran military confrontation, with regional stability hanging in the balance.
