ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The hearing on the Toshakhana reference against PTI founder Imran Khan and his wife Bushra Bibi was adjourned till January 23 after the recording of the statements of two witnesses and cross-examination of the other one.

During the proceedings, Imran Khan objected to NAB’s attempt to record the statement of Bani Gala Security Chief Inam Shah, and said that if his statement is to be recorded, he should take an oath by placing his hand on the Holy Quran.

The hearing on the Toshakhana reference was conducted by Judge Muhammad Bashir of Accountability Court Islamabad in Adiala Jail. During the hearing, the PTI founder was presented before the court. The cross-examination was completed on the statement of one witness from Dubai while the statements of two witnesses were recorded.

Imran Bashir, an employee of the company that estimated the value of jewelry set and bracelet watch, while recording his statement, said that the company was approached by the Council General of Pakistan office for the estimation of the gifts. “The company gave me the task to estimate Graff wristwatch and other gifts as per market value of these items. I estimated the value of the gifts at US$19.492 million after taking input from diamond dealers and jewelery outlets and submitted the report to the Office of the Council General Pakistan,” he stated in the court.

After the statement of the witness was completed, defence lawyer Shehbaz Khosa cross-examined. The witness further said that Mohsin Habib gave the photographs for the estimate of jewelery set. “I work as a part-time salesman in the company, the jewelery set and wristwatch were not physically given to me for the estimate and I was not paid.” He further said, “I am paid a monthly salary by the company, I don’t know how much the company charged for the jewelry set estimate and the company was paid in dollars, in dirhams or Pakistani rupees, I don’t know.”

He said that he was not aware of any written request from the consulate for the estimate of gifts. “It is true that I was not given the task of estimating the value of gifts in writing. I also did not have any authorization letter from the company. It is true that I do not have any authorization letter from the company to appear before the court. I prepared the gift estimate report and submitted it to the office,” he stated before the court.

During the next hearing, prosecution witnesses including Inaam Shah and Sohaib Abbas will get their statements recorded. The case was adjourned for January 23.
