ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Industries and Production, announced that it is the government's goal to make 30% of cars electric by 2030 under the National Electric Vehicle (NEV) Policy 2025–30.

Governments aim will not only help Pakistan with its pollution problem but also boost a more eco-friendly living, make the state go greener, boost public health and be light on the wallet as well.

Going electric not only helps the environment but also reduces dependence on imported oil; it can save 2.07 billion litres of fuel every year, decrease carbon emissions by 4.5 million tonnes, boost the national economy by lowering foreign exchange costs by $1 billion yearly and most importantly, it ll lessen the cost of healthcare by $405 per year.

The cost of 116,053 electric bikes and 3,171 electric rickshaws will be covered by fiscal year 2025-26 Rs. 9 billion subsidies that the government is giving.25% of these subsidies are reserved for women to ensure better and safer transportation for those who commute every day, and applying and receiving them will be simple, as everything will be done through a digital platform ensuring transparency and efficiency.
