ISLAMABAD: (Web Desk) There is a possibility of suspending internet and mobile services in various districts of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as well as Islamabad.

Sources said that the decision will be taken in view of the protest of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf on November 24.

According to the sources, the internet firewall system will be activated by the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) from November 22. Due to the decision, the internet speed will decrease and there is a possibility of difficulty in using social media apps.

Preparation of immediate suspension in certain areas

Depending on the situation, it may be decided to completely suspend internet and mobile services in certain areas at any time, the sources said.

The aim of this move is to keep the communication system under control during potential protest activities to improve the law and order situation.

Advice on VPN Registration

On the other hand, an important meeting on the use of VPN was held at the PTA headquarters.

The meeting was attended by representatives of Pakistan Software Export Board, Software Houses Association, Freelancers Association, Ministry of IT and Telecom, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and State Bank of Pakistan. Various suggestions were considered in the meeting to streamline the VPN registration process and ensure user convenience.

Emphasis on business continuity and security

The PTA assured the meeting that internet services will be kept secure and uninterrupted for registered VPN users.

During the meeting representatives of software houses, firms, banks, embassies, and freelancers especially emphasized simplification of the VPN registration process.

Stakeholders suggested giving more time to the consultation process and unregistered use of VPNs to ensure business continuity.

PTA Explanation

The PTA officials on the occasion said that currently no instructions have been issued regarding suspension of internet or mobile service.

However, they said, the government initiatives are being evaluated for potential disruptions through firewall implementation. More progress in this regard is expected in the coming days.
