Cabinet Division issues critical Wi-Fi advisory
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk): To ensure the safe usage of the WiFi, the Cabinet Division has issued a cyber-security advisory.

As the Wi-Fi connections have become an essential part of ICT infrastructure, the, security of Wi-Fi routers is necessary for household and organizational networks amidst current security threat.

Owing to the exponential rise in critical vulnerabilities, default security configurations, and a lack of user awareness, malicious actors can gain persistent access to networks and endpoints, install malware, and steal sensitive or private data.

In this context, the advisory highlights Wi-Fi security threats and provides guidelines for prevention.

According to the advisory, Wi-Fi routers are being viewed as one of the least secure devices due to their focus on functionality instead of security. A latest research document reveals that approximately one third of the discovered critical known vulnerabilities in Wi-Fi routers are neither patched nor addressed by vendors.

Moreover, the lack of expertise in securing Wi-Fi routers further weakens an organisation’s security posture.

The advisory has outlined numerous common threats and enlists guidelines for Wi-Fi router hardening.
