(Web Desk): WhatsApp users are warned about the dangerous Ghost Pairing scam, allowing hackers to silently hijack accounts and access messages, media, and contacts.

Cybersecurity experts have issued a warning for WhatsApp users over a new and dangerous cyber fraud called “Ghost Pairing,” which enables hackers to silently hijack WhatsApp accounts without breaching its core security.

According to reports, hackers exploit WhatsApp’s linked devices feature to gain full access to users’ messages, photos, videos, and voice notes. Once connected, the hacker gains complete control over the account without the user being alerted.

Typically, hackers send a fake link that resembles a legitimate website. When the user enters their phone number and verification code, the account gets unknowingly linked to the hacker’s device, giving them complete access.

Risks After Account Hijacking:

  • Hackers can read private messages.
  • Download photos, videos, and voice notes.
  • Send messages impersonating the user.
  • Spread the scam to the user’s contacts.

How to Protect Your WhatsApp Account:

1.     Check Linked Devices Regularly: Go to WhatsApp settings and remove any unknown or suspicious devices.

2.     Enable Two-Step Verification: Activate a six-digit PIN to prevent unauthorized access.

3.     Avoid Suspicious Links and Websites: Never enter your phone number or verification code on unknown links, even if sent by a known contact. Verify via a call before taking action.

Experts advise users to remain vigilant, never share verification codes or QR scans, and regularly monitor WhatsApp security features like two-step verification and linked device management to prevent cyber attacks and fraud.
