Snapchat experienced major error on Monday, October 20 due to an Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage.
Snapchat was among several popular apps and websites affected by the disruption, leaving users unable to log in, send messages, or view their friends’ locations.
Amid the outage, a false message has gone viral, claiming that Snapchat accounts would be suspended unless users forwarded it to 20 others within two hours. The hoax reads:
“Official warning from Snapchat management. Starting tonight, all accounts that don t send this message to 20 people within 2 hours will be automatically suspended! Confirmed by the support team due to a new update to the Terms of Use. Send it before you lose your account!”
Amid this Snapchat blackout and warning message X users have requested Snapchat Support to confirm the authenticity of the message.
Later Snapchat made an official announcement requesting users to report or ignore the messages and keep an eye only on Snapchat s official website or official social media accounts for updates.

The sole official statement by Snapchat so far regards the outage itself:
“We’re aware that some Snapchatters are having issues — hang tight, we’re looking into it!”
AWS also verified the outage was caused by a connectivity problem within its Virginia data centers, which affected several platforms such as Roblox, Duolingo, Canva, Strava, and Lloyds Bank.
