Google has rolled out an update that integrates AI assistant Gemini into Google Maps replacing the old assistant and bringing smarter and more conversational navigation experience.
According to Google, the update is rolling out now on Android and iOS where Gemini is available, with gradual expansion to more regions.
With Gemini in Maps, users can now start navigation, ask for nearby places, share their ETA or report traffic incidents using natural voice commands.
The upgrade spans all navigation modes including driving, walking and even two-wheeler routing where available.
One of the most useful new features is landmark based directions for instance, instead of “turn right in 500 meters”, Maps might instruct you to “turn right after the gas station”, using real-world visual cues.

Additionally, Gemini powered “lens” lets users point their camera at surroundings, such as any building or restaurant and ask questions like “What place is this?” or “Is there a parking spot nearby?” to get instant answers while navigating.
