Pakistan thrash South Korea 4-0 in Sultan Azlan Shah Cup

IPOH: Pakistan on Sunday outplayed South Korea by 4-0 as four goals were scored each by Hannan Shahid, Arshad Liaqat, Ghazanfar Ali and Sufyan Khan for their side to sweep past their opponents.

 It was a one-sided contest as Pakistan explosively began the game. Hannan Shahid secured the first goal just three minutes into the game with a powerful field goal.

The tone continued to swing in Pakistan's support as Arshad Liaqat scored the second goal in the 20th minute of the match.

Ghazanfar Ali then scored a third field goal in the 27th minute, leaving the Korean defence struggling to keep pace.

As the match progressed into the third  quarter, Pakistan denied their opponents any opportunity to close the gap. The score remained unchanged at the end of the third quarter.

In the final quarter, Sufyan Khan converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 50th minute.

After defeating hosts Malaysia on May 4 and South Korea on May 5, Pakistan’s campaign in the tournament will continue against Japan on May 7, Canada on May 8, and New Zealand on May 10. The final of the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament would be held on May 11.

The team is consisted of experienced players, including two goalkeepers — Abdullah and Muneeb-ur-Rehman, while it includes six defenders — Usama Bashir, Athisham, Mohammad Abdullah, Sufiyan, Abu Bakar, and captain Shakeel Butt. Midfielders Salman Razzaq, Arshad Liaqat, Moin Shakeel, Zakriya Hayat, Murtaza Yaqoob, and Ghazanfar Ali have also been selected.

Forwards Abdul Rehman, Hanan, Rana Waheed, and Ejaz Ahmed complete the squad.

Meanwhile, seven players have been selected as standbys, including Akmal Hussain, Aqeel Ahmed, Arbaz, Hammad Anjum, Abdul Rehman Jr., Abdul Manan, and Rooman.

The Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament is a premier international hockey competition, and Pakistan’s participation in the Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament is a testament to the country’s rich hockey heritage and talent. The team’s performance in the tournament would be closely watched by hockey fans across the country.
