Dembele’s win follows an outstanding year with PSG. He played a key role in the club’s first-ever Champions League triumph and helped deliver a historic treble of Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, and the Champions League.
Earlier in the season, the 28-year-old also lifted the Ballon d’Or, confirming his rise to the top of world football. Once troubled by injuries and inconsistency, Dembele showed strong form throughout 2025, scoring important goals and providing crucial assists.
After receiving the award, Dembele thanked his teammates and reflected on his journey. “I wanted to thank my teammates. Hard work pays off; it’s been a fantastic year for me, both individually and collectively,” he said.

The ceremony took place on the eve of the Intercontinental Cup final between PSG and Flamengo, being played in Qatar.
On the women’s side, Spain’s Aitana Bonmati was crowned FIFA’s women’s player of the year for the third consecutive time. She had already won her third straight Ballon d’Or earlier in the season.
Despite the personal honours, the year was mixed for Bonmati. She suffered disappointment after losing both the Champions League and European Championship finals last season.
The winners were selected through votes by fans, media representatives, national team captains, and coaches.
