
Croatian midfielder, Luka Modric, announced yesterday that he would leave the club after the Club World Cup which is going to commence next month from June 15. He also added that forthcoming La Liga match against Real Sociedad on Saturday would be his last match on Madrid’s home stadium, Santiago Bernabeu. In his recent instagram post, he says, “The time has come. The moment I never wanted to come, but that s football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end... On Saturday I will play my last match at the Santiago Bernabéu”
Moreover, he outpours his emotions by stating, “I arrived in 2012 with the desire to wear the shirt of the best team in the world and with the ambition to do big things, but I couldn t imagine what came next. Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a football player and as a person. I am proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history”
In the same post, he thanked his teammates, coaches, club and club administration for their continuous support over the years. He goes, “I want to thank the club from the bottom of my heart, especially the president Florentino Perez, my teammates, coaches and all the people who have helped me during all this time.”
He also left a full-hearted note for his fans. “But beyond the titles and victories, I carry in my heart the affection of all Madrid fans. I really don t know how to explain the special connection I have with you and how supported, respected and loved I have felt and feel. I will never forget each ovation and all the gestures of affection you have shown me.”
Luka Modric had a great carrier at Real Madrid. He played 13 seasons for the Madrid and won 28 trophies being the most decorated player in the history of club. These trophies include 6 UEFA champions League, 4 La Liga titles and 2 Copa Del Rey titles. Moreover, he also got to win Ballon d’or in 2018.
Many Football players and pundits congratulated him for his wonderful carrier. His former teammate and Real Madrid legend, Cristiano Ronaldo also left a beautiful note for him. Ronaldo says, “Thank you for everything, Luka! It’s been an honour to share so many moments with you at the club. Much success in what’s to come”
