Sri Lanka’s surprise total leaves Pakistan under pressure in second ODI

RAWALPINDI (Web Desk): Sri Lanka’s surprise total has left Pakistan under pressure as the hosts face a chase of 289 in the second ODI.

Sri Lanka set Pakistan a challenging target of 289 runs in the second ODI, creating early excitement and pressure around the match. The visitors reached 288 for eight in their 50 overs after being sent in to bat.

Sri Lanka’s innings was held together by Jayanth Liyanage, who scored a solid 54. Commando Mendis added 44, while Sadeera Samarawickrama contributed 42. Kamal Mishra and Pathum Nissanka both scored 24, giving Sri Lanka useful support in the middle overs.

Among the lower order, Wanindu Hasaranga made an impressive 37 not out and Pramod Madushan chipped in with 11 not out. However, Kusal Mendis fell for 20, captain Karith Asalanka managed only 6 and Dushmantha Chameera returned without scoring.

For Pakistan, Abrar Ahmed and Haris Rauf each took three wickets, keeping the innings from running away. Mohammad Wasim Junior added one wicket as Pakistan tried to limit Sri Lanka’s momentum.

Today, Pakistan played under the leadership of Salman Ali Agha, who replaced Shaheen Afridi as captain. Two changes were made, with Shaheen Afridi and Faheem Ashraf rested and Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Wasim Junior brought into the XI.

Pakistan’s squad included Salman Ali Agha (captain), Fakhar Zaman, Saim Ayub, Babar Azam, Mohammad Rizwan (wicketkeeper), Hussain Talat, Mohammad Nawaz, Mohammad Wasim Junior, Haris Rauf, Naseem Shah and Abrar Ahmed.

Sri Lanka lined up with Pathum Nissanka, Kamal Mishra, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Karith Asalanka, Jayanth Liyanage, Commando Mendis, Wanindu Hasaranga, Pramod Madushan, Dushmantha Chameera and Asitha Fernando.

Pakistan’s bowlers kept the total within reach, but Sri Lanka still managed steady partnerships. The chase now depends on Pakistan’s top order. Early wickets could cause trouble, but a calm start may turn the game. The pressure is clear, and fans expect a tight finish.
