Pakistan has decided to take more time before confirming its participation in the T20 World Cup. Officials say the final call on whether the team will play in the mega event is likely by Friday or next Monday.
The development came after Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman Mohsin Naqvi held an important meeting with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. During the meeting, the prime minister was briefed on the situation created by what PCB described as a biased ICC decision involving Bangladesh.
Different protest options were discussed, including reactions to Bangladesh’s exclusion from the T20 World Cup. The PCB chairman also informed the prime minister that Pakistan has the option of not playing the match against India scheduled for 15 February in Colombo.
Officials said skipping the India match could cause heavy financial losses for the ICC, making it a strong pressure option. At the same time, PCB plans to keep its protest visible even if Pakistan participates in the tournament.
According to the briefing, players could wear black armbands during matches as a sign of protest. Another proposal under discussion is to dedicate any victory to Bangladeshi fans to show solidarity.
After the meeting, Mohsin Naqvi wrote on social media platform X that all protest options were placed before the prime minister. He said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif directed that the issue should be resolved wisely after considering all options.
