Following their disappointing performance in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) wants to stabilise the national cricket team.
Sources reveal that Saqlain has agreed to assume the role after a meeting with PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
He is expected to take the charge before Pakistan s upcoming tour to New Zealand, where they are scheduled to play five T20Is and three ODIs from March 16 to April 5.
Saqlain, who previously served as Pakistan s head coach, had turned down the offer before the Champions Trophy, reportedly due to issues with team selection.
Pakistan s underwhelming performance in the 2025 Champions Trophy, where they failed to win a single match, has led to increased scrutiny of senior players form. The PCB is also considering introducing fresh talent into the squad for the New Zealand series.
An official announcement regarding Saqlain Mushtaq’s appointment is anticipated soon, with the PCB looking to finalize the coaching staff ahead of Pakistan s departure for New Zealand on March 12.
