According to team sources, preparations for the match are complete and the game will proceed as scheduled this evening. However, Pakistan will not accept Andy Pycroft as the referee for the contest. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has raised strong objections against him and formally communicated its stance to the International Cricket Council (ICC).
Reports suggest that West Indies’ Richie Richardson is likely to be appointed as the referee for the match against the UAE. Sources confirm that the PCB has written another letter to the ICC, reiterating its demand to replace Pycroft. The board has warned that failure to address its concerns could lead to Pakistan boycotting future Asia Cup fixtures.
Pakistan had earlier expressed strong dissatisfaction with Pycroft’s conduct during the high-profile Pakistan-India match on September 15, particularly over the post-match handshake controversy. The PCB argued that Pycroft’s behavior was biased and damaging, prompting its request for his immediate removal.

While an Indian cricket website earlier claimed that the ICC had rejected Pakistan’s demand, the PCB has maintained its firm stance. Officials insist that the team will only participate in upcoming fixtures if the ICC formally announces a replacement referee and assures that all concerns have been resolved.
Today’s match against the UAE carries added importance, not only for Pakistan’s campaign in the Asia Cup but also as a test of the PCB’s uncompromising position on fair officiating. Fans are closely watching whether the ICC will yield to Pakistan’s demands or risk further escalation in the ongoing dispute.
