
He called these rumours ‘baseless’. During the recent tri-nation ODI series against New Zealand and South Africa, he made his return to the national team.
He suffered an injury during Pakistan’s ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025 match against New Zealand in Karachi on February 19. He was not part of the squad in the high-voltage match against India.
During the fielding in the first over, Fakhar fell awkwardly. He was taken off the field for medical evaluation. Imam-ul-Haq replaced Fakhar in the national team.
After his exit from the squad, the rumours started circulating about his retirement. In a statement, Fakhar denied the such rumours, stating,
“There is no truth in the retirement news. I will be fully fit and join the team soon.”
Currently, Fakhar is undergoing medical treatment at Lahore’s National Cricket Academy (NCA).
Fakhar made his debut in 2017. Since his debut, he has played three Test matches, 86 ODIs, and 92 T20Is for Pakistan. He made a total of 5,691 runs across formats, smashing 11 centuries and 30 half-centuries.
