(Web Desk): Pakistan’s Olympic gold medalist Arshad Nadeem has stormed into the final of the Javelin Throw event at the World Athletics Championship.

Arshad, the only Pakistani athlete at the championship being held in Tokyo, Japan, began his qualifier round in Group B with his very first throw.

The start, however, was shaky. His opening attempt reached just 76.9 meters, followed by another disappointing 74.17 meters. With these weak throws, qualification seemed out of reach.

But Arshad made a stunning comeback in his third attempt, launching the javelin 85.28 meters to secure his place in the final. His biggest rival, India’s Neeraj Chopra, managed 84.85 meters — just below Arshad’s mark.

A total of 12 athletes have qualified for the final, which will take place tomorrow, September 18. The clash between Arshad and Neeraj is expected to draw massive attention across South Asia.

It is important to note that Arshad had earlier missed both the World Athletics Silver Tour and the Diamond League due to injury. After undergoing calf surgery in June, the 28-year-old star spent weeks in London for rehabilitation before returning to Lahore to train for this championship.
