Javelin champion waves Pakistani flag after winning gold in Paris Olympics 2024.
LAHORE: (Web Desk) Famous singer Abrar-ul-Haq has announced a cash prize of Rs1.5 million for Javelin champion Arshad Nadeem, and he has also announced naming the ground of Sahara Medical College after the athlete.

The singer lauded Nadeem’s recent gold win in Paris Olympics 2024 and emphasised how important it is to recognise and nurture sports talent in the country.

The newly named “Arshad Nadeem Sports Arena” is envisioned as a top-tier facility for aspiring athletes.

On the other hand, the Athletics Federation of Pakistan announced free Umrah pilgrimage for javelin champion Arshad Nadeem and his family.

The athlete won gold in the Olympic men’s javelin on Thursday last, beating defending champion Neeraj Chopra of India to clinch Pakistan’s first Olympic medal in athletics.

Nadeem threw his arms up in celebration after breaking the Olympic record on his second throw with a stunning 92.97 metres that put him sixth on the all-time list.

"When I threw the javelin, I got the feel of it leaving my hand, and sensed it could be an Olympic record, inshallah (God willing)," Nadeem said.

He knelt down and performed sajdah after the victory. The Pakistani finished fifth in Tokyo, but improved to take silver at last year’s world championships.

Nadeem got a hero’s welcome on his arrival to homeland amid a water canon salute and chants from thousands of supporters on Sunday.

He was welcomed by his family, including his father, who placed a garland around his neck while thousands of people were chanting “Long Live Arshad Nadeem! Long Live Pakistan!” in Lahore.
