ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) Caretaker Federal Minister for Information Murtaza Solangi has said that elections in the country will be held on February 8, adding “speculations and rumors should be avoided.”

While addressing a press conference in Islamabad, he said the foreign media representatives are already in Pakistan to cover the elections.

“Many foreign journalists have applied for visas to cover the election. 49 visas have been issued to observers and foreign journalists, and 32 applications are still being processed,” the caretaker information minister told the media.

Murtaza Solangi said about 24 permits are in process at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi, India, adding a total of 174 applications have been received from various media outlets, with 25 applications from the UK alone in the foreign journalist category.

He also said eight applications from the Russian Federation, 13 from Japan, five of Canadian parliament members, and five from the Commonwealth are in process.

“As many as 6065 journalists have been given accreditation cards within Pakistan,” he informed the media.

“1,200 journalists from Lahore, 1,470 from Karachi, 1,050 from Peshawar, 600 from Quetta, 355 from Hyderabad, 250 from Faisalabad, and 290 from Multan were given accreditation cards,” he added.
