SC summons Qasim Suri for disqualification case hearing

ISLAMABAD: (Suno News) The Supreme Court (SC) on Tuesday summoned former National Assembly deputy speaker Qasim Suri in person at the next disqualification case hearing.

The SC also issued a notice to the registrar for not fixing Qasim Suri’s disqualification case for hearing. An SC bench, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, heard the case.

“Qasim Suri enjoyed the entire assembly tenure by taking stay orders in the case. Now he is saying that the assembly case has become ineffective,” the CJP remarked.

“Did you use any tactic to avoid the fixation of the case for hearing in the Supreme Court?” the CJP questioned the SC registrar.

“Qasim Suri became the cause of the constitutional crisis in the country. Why shouldn’t the action over constitutional violation be ordered against Qasim Suri?” he further remarked.

“After stay orders, the case was not allowed to be fixed for hearing. The internal system of the Supreme Court was manipulated,” he deplored.

“Qasim Suri’s case was clubbed with other cases by the court,” Qasim Suri’s lawyer Naeem Bukhari told the CJP.

“I know how cases are clubbed. I have been a lawyer since 1982,” the CJP said to Naeem Bukhari.

“I have been a High Court lawyer since 1972 and have never got any case fixed,” Naeem Bukhari replied.

“We will conduct our inquiry on how the case was clubbed and why it was not fixed for hearing for so long,” the CJP stated.

The SC sought an inquiry report from the registrar within three weeks and also issued a notice to Qasim Khan Suri’s opposing contestant Lashkari Raisani.
