Poliovirus detected in environmental samples taken from Karachi

KARACHI: (Suno News) Poliovirus was detected Thursday in the environmental samples taken from Karachi.

The virus is genetically related to the cluster in Afghanistan, a Sindh health ministry spokesperson said.

On the other hand, Sindh Health Minister Dr Nadeem Jan stated that stringent measures had been taken to eradicate poliovirus.

He requested people to get their children vaccinated against poliovirus to protect them from permanent disability.

It is to be noted here that the poliovirus targets children under the age of five. The virus attacks the nervous system and causes paralysis.

Vaccination is considered to be the most effective way to save children from falling prey to the virus.
