PML-N, MQM announce alliance for 2024 elections

LAHORE: (Suno News) Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Tuesday announced fighting the 2024 general election together.

Both parties also decided to adopt a common strategy in the elections.

PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, along with the MQM leaders, held a joint press conference in Lahore and said that there was a need for consensus to solve the problems of the country.

“PML-N and MQM will contest elections together. Bashir Memon has been nominated as the new PML-N Sindh president,” he added.

MQM leader Farooq Sattar said that the current economic and political challenges could be dealt with together.

“A joint strategy will be adopted in the elections. The joint committee of PML-N and MQM will consist of three members. Not only elections, we will have to fight the challenges too. We have to understand our national responsibility,” he added.

MQM leader Mustafa Kamal said that Pakistan had been suffering from various crises, adding that no one had the experiences that Nawaz Sharif had.

“At this time, the country needs tough decisions to be made by the major parties. Karachi is a milk cow. It should be fed too,” he pointed out.

He said that the electoral alliance would not be for the ministries, but for solving the problems of the people. “In 2013, MQM won 17 out of 20 seats in Karachi,” he added.

“We will go back to the position of 2013. Nawaz Sharif has the experience to deal with all kinds of problems. Karachi can take the country out of problems, not the IMF,” he emphasised.

Later, PML-M and MQM issued a joint statement saying that they would adopt a joint strategy to get the people of Pakistan out of the current problems and take Pakistan on the path to development again.

The statement said that the two parties also decided to set up a 6-member committee that would prepare a comprehensive charter to solve the problems of Sindh province, especially its urban areas.

“The committee will present final proposals for cooperation between the two parties to the leadership within 10 days,” the statement added.

Earlier, the MQM delegation visited the PML-N Secretariat in Model Town Lahore and held a meeting with the Muslim League leaders.
